In 2021, Good Golly was commissioned to create two shorts for AAPI Heritage month. These shorts aired on TV and across their social channels. We continued the relationship in 2022 with another short — this time an animated homage to b-movies featuring a sentient mochi.
These pieces were greatly influenced by our experiences living as AAPI women in Los Angeles. Asian food in particular feels so much a part of LA's very diverse culture, and we tried to recreate and represent that in our films. |
BIBBIDI KIMBAP-IDI BOO!
POTLUCK
NIGHT OF THE LIVING MOCHI
This piece is greatly influenced (and perhaps set) in Little Tokyo's Fugetsu-do, a Japanese mochi and sweets shop that has been open since 1903. This place holds a special place for us because Alexa is fifth generation Japanese American, and her family has been living in California for a hundred years. Shops like Fugetsu-do and what they represent for the community is what we love and want to highlight about Los Angeles, even through kooky films like this!
